A pattern of Douglas C-47s and gliders are pictured against the sky as the 439th Troop Carrier Group sends load after load of airborne infantry reinforcement inot needed areas. 5 April 1945. This information is the caption on the back of the photo but is miss-leading. These are not reinforcements but part of the largest one day lift of the war. Two divisions were air lifted, British 6th and the 17th AB divisions (paratroopers and gliders) all at the same time that the ground troops were crossing the Rhine. They were not taking any chance of this being another Market-Garden. Everything and everyone went in at once. The date was not 5 April is wrong this was was 24 March 1945. The unit is probably correct as four out of the eight Troop Carrier Groups towing gliders went into Wesel (LZ-S) on the 24th were on double tow: 435th, 436th, 437th, and 439th. The other Groups towing gliders were the 3
14th, 440th, 441st, and 442nd, landing in LZ-N. .
