Zach Cromley – Research Team bio:
Zach had the good fortune of moving into a house next to a living WWII Glider Pilot named Roger
William Smith. At the time, Zach was working as a civilian contractor to the US Army and transporting
military personnel and supplies in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Because of Zach and Roger’s
shared experiences and interests they became close friends. Zach eagerly took up an interest in Roger’s
WWII mission as a Glider Pilot and has made a lifelong commitment to continue to honor the legacy of
these brave heroes.
Currently Zach is a commercial airline pilot and spends as much time as possible with Roger. He has
spent a large amount of time managing Roger’s collection and is still working on identifying personnel
and adding context to Roger’s story. He proactively seeks out family members of the 62nd Troop Carrier
Group men in order to share Roger’s collection. He believes it’s a true honor to share it with the family
members and anyone else interested in Troop Carrier History.
