The Foundation is classified as a non-profit tax-exempt organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code with tax identification number 20-0794391. It was created by former WWII Glider Pilots for the purpose of financially supporting the Silent Wings Museum Located Lubbock, TX. Today, it continues in that role and has also become the host of the National WWII Glider Pilots Committee. The Foundation is funded entirely through donations, 100% of which go to the support of the Museum and its aircrafts.
